WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Foreigners slowed their purchases of U.S. assets in January, the Treasury Department said Tuesday. Foreign investors bought a net $51.5 billion of long-term U.S. assets in January down from $62.5 billion in the prior month. International demand for Treasurys decelerated to an increase of $46.4 billion in January from a gain of $54.7 billion in the prior month. According to the data, Mainland China decreased its Treasury holdings for the third consecutive month in January, while Japan and the United Kingdom increased their holdings.
