Hi SG,
The whole point of this forum is to share information and exchange ideas about the markets and trading. And since it is an open forum, folks are free to click on any post they wish to, use what they like, and discard the rest.
As for MarketWatch themselves, I don't necessarily agree with the validity of all the content in the economic reports they distribute or the manner in which some of the data may be spun or presented, but in most cases, the reports are fairly innocuous. A weekly crude inventory report for example just states the numbers the EIA have calculated for the week, and the Marketwatch reporter will typically note the comparison to the pre-report consensus expectations. From there, forum participants can then discuss the importance and validity of the numbers. If posting the news item here helps prompt such a dialogue on the topic, then great.
That's the kind of positive exchange that Webmaster Mike no doubt wants to see promoted on his site. And, as you suggest, people are certainly free to go to the MarketWatch website directly to obtain any information they may like or explore an item in more detail. That is why I always acknowledge both the website and news article writer in every post.
Anyway, just my thoughts and perspective on the matter. I know you were just providing the same.
Best regards
