Canada July jobless rate off to 7.2% vs June 7.4% (by Mike Maynard)

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Canada's unemployment rate dipped to 7.2% in July from 7.4% in June, the government reported. However, employment growth flattened out on a month-to-month basis, following three straight months of increases. For the 12 months through July, employment in Canada showed 1.5% growth, or 252,000 positions, to a total base of nearly 17.4 million. Private-sector job growth was offset by cuts in the public sector last month, according to Statistics Canada.
