Odd I've never heard of that wood or its use before. It obviously goes back centuries in use. Reading the site I never did read where the trees were that make up this wood. Perhaps its a secret. You'd think there are a few places in the world that the trees grow. Only tree that I know of around the
West Coast that is hard as a rock and heavy and dense and doesn't split is Arbutus. It has leaves like a Deciduous tree but doesn't shed its leaves in the fall but stays green all year long. Plus it sheds much of its bark and leaves a smooth golden burnt orange skin showing. It only grows on the West Coast in Canada from what I understand and not further east.
