Merkel confident Germany will support Greece (by Wallace Witkowski)

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday she is confident Germany will support Greece and that she wanted the country to remain in the euro zone, according to media reports, following a meeting in Berlin with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou. The Greek prime minister, for his part, said he was ready to lead Greece toward economic stability and that targets laid out by the European Union, International Monetary Fund and European Central Bank will not be change. Earlier in the day, the Greek parliament reportedly passed a measure to implement a new property tax.
