a bunch of banks got together and had to loan the Hunts the money to settle the unsecured debit in the 3 days that was mentioned. That loan took awhile to get paid off. Bunker had to sell even the race horses.

You are right about the currency exchanges back then, Routine wire transfers were "held" within the banking system for days (let's say as much as five). It was all to "earn" interest on those funds by the banks as they delayed and delayed. Call your bank: "We sent it." Call the receiving bank: "We didn't get it." It was all a joke.
