This may not exactly go with the topic but I, from time to time, am asked by my neph's to help them with some wood working project.

So here we'll go, this that or the other thing, here boy this piece needs to be cut at 34 5/8ths.

They can not read a ruler/tape measure. They're all 20+, some 10 years or more over that. I learned how to read a ruler in...what? the second grade?

And yes, not ever child needs to go to college. Not all ever did. There's nothing wrong making 100K a years welding two pieces of metal together, or knowing how to run a metal lathe where you have to know how to read measuring instrument to the thousandths of an inch.

One of my life long friends is a certified auto mechanic. Over the years he has had no choice but to continue his education of automobiles. Now he's a computer expert along with being able to rip a car apart from front to back.

Nothing wrong with doing that kind of work. I've done plenty of "dirty jobs" in my life time.

Next time you get to thinking yourself superior to those who do these jobs, I challenge you to diagnose and then repair your automobile.

I bet 90% of the people out there can't even change the tire on their car much less pull a motor apart and put it back together.
