This wasn't hard to see coming with the advent of point and click shopping. I live a little ways outside of town...takes me 10-15 minutes to get to the first non-food store going in one direction...in the next 20 or more. I'll pay a little for the shipping but when you add in gas and time and aggravation due to traffic...it's close to a break even deal. If you can wait three or four days for something to come to your door, why would you travel to get stuff. In addition to point and click...there's also the variety. With brick and mortar you get to choose from what they carry or have in stock. With the net...man the variety seems limitless.
Outside of the net shopping variable...I'm surprised Radio Shack didn't close down years ago. I never really bought anything from Radio Shack unless it was pieces parts for something. If you were into build it yourself or self repair that was the place to go. Now, electronics are so complicated and cheap it's become a throw away product...to an extent. Add to that, I just don't think the interest is there in the general population like it was back when I was a kid. We used to be intrigued by the thought of build it yourself radio's etc...not so much anymore...it's more like...what's a radio.
