I do believe that is exactly what is happening. The underlying "calm " "lack of volatility", whatever you want to call it, is exactly that , all boats need to move in the right direction, but if something stirs the water , the unwinding of these positions would be unprecedented . You would see huge countertrend moves
It reminds me of 2007-2008 with mortgages. Once the music stops people realize there are not enough chairs.
