Tesla Inc. tsla-3.04% has halted Model 3 production for four to five days, according to a report from Buzzfeed late Monday. The temporary shutdown came without warning and workers are expected to use vacation days or stay home without pay, though a small number are being offered paid work in another part of the Fremont, Calif. factory, Buzzfeed reported. Tesla previously shutdown production in February. "Our Model 3 production plan includes periods of planned downtime in both Fremont and Gigafactory 1," a Tesla spokesman said in a statement. "These periods are used to improve automation and systematically address bottlenecks in order to increase production rates. This is not unusual and is in fact common in production ramps like this." Tesla stock is down a fraction in after-hours trading and closed down 3% to $291.21 in the regular session. Tesla stock is down 6.5% this year, as the S&P 500 index spx+0.81% has gained a fraction.
