1. You have the right to remain silent...remain so except to say...I WANT MY ATTORNEY!
2. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law...see rule one.
Where were you at the time of the crime...My attorney says...Ask your Mama.
They taught us in CCW class if your involved in a shooting, even if it's justified, to say...I was in fear of my life and I acted in self defense...I want to speak to my attorney. That's if you feel compelled to show some deference to the cops, otherwise...I need to speak to my attorney. They will likely throw you in the gray-bar hotel where they might not if you just tell them exactly what happened.
