Trades,
Seems that are in much the same boat.

On the collection, selling the stuff takes time, effort and likely (for much of it) takes more time than it is worth. In Vermont, folks put it out by the road (traveled) with a "free" sign. It all disappears. You then, at least know that someone will benefit from it.

On weather: [I deal better with cold than heat and humidity]

South of you, I think the weather gets far worse (to me) more rain, fog etc. Used to do a lot of work with Boeing in Seattle area, loved it, when it was not raining !! Never got as far North as you are.

I find that I (mentally) have to be within reasonable access of waters, be it the ocean, bay, or a large lake. I could not survive in Iowa (and don't want to tick anyone off, I grew up on the water, it is in my blood I guess.)

I dated a woman whose parents had a place on the south west coast of Puerto Rico. The temperature was 80deg.F plus/minus 10 degrees, year round (very pleasant). The key was the onshore winds from the south east. Go to the North side of any of those islands and lose the sea breeze it becomes unbearable (for me).

Message:
Do some serious research/testing before making a commitment. The other side of a small island, or even slightly inland can be like night and day.

Might check out the Cayman Islands. I have communicated with folks down there that bought saddles from us that absolutely love it. But, I have no personal experience. Also, there is a requirement that you have a certain "net worth" in order to become a resident there. They make sure that they do not "import" welfare cases. And from that, you can be reasonably sure that you won't be taxed to support them.

Just some thoughts,
Lee
