WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Foreign investors bought a net $85.1 billion of long-term U.S. assets in November up from $28.9 billion in October, the Treasury Department said Tuesday. International demand for Treasurys accelerated to an increase of $61.7 billion in November from a gain of $24.7 billion in October. Foreign central bank purchases of Treasurys, corporate bonds and equities increased $12 billion in November after net sales of $7.5 billion in the previous month. Including short-term securities and bank lending data, foreigners purchased a net $39 billion of U.S. assets compared with net purchases of $15.1 billion a month earlier. According to the data, Mainland China decreased its Treasury holdings in November, while Japan and the United Kingdom increased their holdings.
