Ok, well the reason I asked is that if the AC unit was operating at the time of the lightening strike then there's a good possibility that it really is cooked, but if it wasn't then it might be a simple and relatively inexpensive fix. It might be wise to get a second opinion from a different company, and when they come out don't mention the lightening, and see if they say the same thing as the previous guy. I was in that business for 25 years and know that some of those HVAC dudes are pretty unscrupulous. Another option is, if you have a volt/ohm meter I could check it out for you but you would have to be my eyes.
