Canada stopped printing the One dollar bill years ago. In fact they stopped printing the two dollar bill as well. Most young people today here have never seen one dollar or two dollar bills. The U.S. keeps making ones as the public feels good with a wallet full of 'bills' rather than coins. It's a psychological thing or 'feel good' situation where you may be close to broke but if you have a wad of one dollar bills with a $50 bill wrapped around it you look like a winner. We refer to that as a "Chicago bankroll." The Canadian government doesn't care about feel good politics so for practical purposes cancelled the ones and twos and replaced them with long lasting coins. The smallest bill now is the $5. I don't think the U.S. will cancel the one dollar bill anymore than they will switch to metric which was the original North American plan for fear of public backlash. The U.S.government is far more sensitive to public attitudes than north of the border.
