Guess we'll all have to wait now to the end of 2012. I believe it was the history channel that said towards the end of 2012 we should see venus move across the face of the sun as a dark spot. I have no idea how often that happens. If it happens often or is rare.

Break out your binoculars or small telescope for November. Asteroid YU55 (according to TV is about the size of an aircraft carrier) will pass between the earth and the moon. Considered to be the largest object to pass this close to earth. Said it is rare to know in advance as most near misses are detected after the fact. Scientist on TV said it could be considered a city killer. Glad its not a planet killer. Link is below.
