It true that spending must end and savings must come. However...do you think its possible that the committee with take off the blinders and realize that saving money means nothing is a holy grail? The US can't afford to maintain Medicare in its current form, nor can it aford to fight wars overseas, nor can it afford to tax capital gains at 15% if income is being taxed at 35%. To get out of debt you need to do what households do: you cut spending, you raise revenue, you pay the bills and if you are disciplined, after a while, prosperity returns. My fear is that this committee will be a mini-me for the debt-limit debacle and that will prove that the current suite are incapable of thinking logically, and worse, that the American people can't face the reality of the situation.
