I do not know of any request by them for "free money", The money recieved in 2010 was "offered", offered to put the tenacles of the Gov in their business. It cost them a lot of money and resources to give the money back. Money they did NOT want in the first place.

I think a lot of people like to point fingers at Goldman that only hear "unsupported" media stories. It does Goldman no good to spin time aguring with the Gov or media.
