The main value in COT is to watch the Commercials, and the rest of the players for that matter, over ***long*** periods; longer than Software North data. It is only an insight into positioning, not an indicator in the sense of RSI, MACD, etc. I have run derivative studies on the data and found no use. It is only a heads up which requires price confirmation. A good example is GC, where Commercials have been heavy short for 2+ years; that combined with parabolic action along with declining OI suggests to take the Top Spring signal. By the way, the OI action is classic Edwards, and very important. Also important in the GC case is OI contraction on the correction so far which does not suggest initiation down.
