Greek minister sees end to 'period of uncertainty' (by William L. Watts)
FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos on Monday said he expects fellow euro-zone finance ministers to back a 130 billion euro ($172 billion) bailout for Greece in a meeting later in the day, bringing "a long period of uncertainty to a close ... a period that benefitted neither the Greek economy nor the euro area overall." Speaking in Brussels, Venizelos said Greece has met all preconditions for the rescue package. While technical discussions continue, Greece "is sending Europe the message that they have, and they will, make the necessary sacrifices in order for our country to regain its place within the European family, thus protecting the achievements of many decades in the past," he said.
