I think that is because we are currently at peek oil.

The problem, is there is not enough room, infrastructure or cost effectiveness to but algae...or corn....or make batteries out of rare earth metals....or the same for solar. And even if there was, you still can't produce it in anywhere near the massive amounts we need every day. They might make as much energy in a year, that we use in a day...so none of it is viable.
