Chicago PMI slows expansion in March (by Steve Goldstein)
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The Chicago PMI, or Chicago business barometer by its formal name, decelerated in March but marked its fifth straight month above 60%. The PMI fell to 62.2% in March from 64.0% in February, compared to a MarketWatch-compiled forecast of 63.6%. While the production and new orders components rose, the new orders component decelerated to 63.3% in March from 69.2% in February, and employment fell to 56.3% from 64.2%. The prices paid component rose to the highest level since Aug. 2011. Readings over 50% indicate expansion.
