China Q1 GDP growth cools to 8.1% vs. 8.9% in Q4 (by V. Phani Kumar)

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- China's economic growth slowed more-than-expected to 8.1% in the first quarter from the same period a year earlier, according to official data released Friday. The 8.1% growth compares with an 8.9% increase in the country's gross domestic product in the fourth quarter of 2011, and also falls short of the 8.5% expansion expected by economists surveyed by FactSet Research.
