For the second week of September expect a return to cooler weather for much of the east centered over the Ohio Valley. Florida will be the exception at warmer than average. Above to well above average temperatures along the Rockies and west. Above average to near normal over Texas and the Plains.
This week sees Tropical Storm Isaac's remains crawl slowly N thru Arkansas bringing heavy rain and gusty winds. By Saturday it will be over Missouri where it will stall and die out thru the rest of the weekend. In its wake very mild conditions return to much of the south although thunderstorms over the SE will moderate daytime highs in many localities. The Plains from N to S will be hot and generally dry, with mild to very mild and muggy conditions along much of the Eastern Seaboard. Only the PAC NW will remain cool.
The tropics remain very active. Hurricane Kirk is expected to stay well out to sea over the Atlantic. The jury is still out on newly formed Tropical Storm Leslie, currently around 44W 15N. Nearly all model runs re-curve this system N of the Caribbean and out to sea, with the exception of some runs of the European Model. Those runs bring it quite close to the Atlantic seaboard next week. Since the Euro was the best model by far with Isaac's track, its not to be discounted yet.
