The U.S. response to Japan in WW2 was to Nuke them a couple of times in a row to end the bloodshed as quickly as possible. Otherwise they would still be fighting them and losing thousands more soldiers than they already did plus other lives in the battles. Notice how long wars tend to last when fought conventionally. Sometimes a "KABOOM" or two is what's needed to nip it all off in the bud to save lives and misery overall. It also sends a message to like minded enemies of the consequences to that type of hostile behaviour. KABOOM WORKS!
