Mortgage rates at record lows as 30-year at 3.36% (by Steve Goldstein)
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Mortgage rates fell to record lows for the second straight week, Freddie Mac said Thursday. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.36% with an average 0.6 point for the week ended Oct. 4, down from 3.40%, and the 15-year fixed averaged 2.69% with an average 0.5 point, down from 2.73%. The 5-year Treasury-indexed hybrid adjustable-rate mortgage averaged 2.72%, up from 2.71%, while the 1-year Treasury-indexed ARM averaged 2.57%, down from 2.60%. Freddie Mac said data showing a weakening economy and Federal Reserve purchases of mortgage securities drove the move.
