If you take a long-term view of things I think that it is not a question of will the S&P 500 break out of the current 13 year sideways trading range to the upside, but when?

If you look at the trend of retail sales in this country over the last 20-years the question is why are stocks still lagging? If you understand the power of 90% of the population getting paid every two weeks, you really start to see why it is that so many analysts get it wrong so often. It is rare to see things for what they are rather then thru the lens of our own ego, environment, and experiences.

So often people open trading accounts because they think they can profit from change, because they want things to change. Traders more often however make money because the trends in place stay in place. Repetiition pays much better, and more often than change, in my humble opinion.

Trading is a risky endeavor and not suitable for most investors.
