It requires thinking about thinking. And thinking about what one thinks one should already know. And if $$ is involved one double/triple...... one's thinking until one is lost in thought.

If what I'm reading what you said above in the way you wrote it I think, I think, the words highest and lowest is the stumbling point.

Let's do it this way.

IF stock "X" is currently at 66 1/2 and the BID 66 and the ASK 67

AND IF you want to BUY "X" you'll have to pay the ask of 67. IF you want to sell "X" you must accept the BID at 66. And whichever, then becomes the current price.
