The major problem with "healthcare", as we have known it, is that it has not truly been "private sector" for a very long time.
Medicare (Title Act XVIII) .. a contributory socialization of medicine and Medicaid (Title Act XIX) ... welfare medical treatment ...
Those have been around since LBJ (Lyndon the Bane of this nation Johnson) ... executed into law July 1, 1965 ... taking effect July 1, 1966 ...
That's pushing fifty years of socialized (socialism at its worst) medicine.
VA healthcare ... although in most instances VERY deserved ... is still socialized medicine. The difference here is that one does not go to any doctor or facility ... they go the a Department of Veteran's Affairs facility. A far better way of giving socialized medicine to those that (for the most part) truly DESERVE it.
And, Third party pay ... employer provided health insurance .. wherein few questions are asked by the insured and very little, if any, qualms of utilization ... as overuse only effected the employer's premium. Go to the doctor for a sniffle ... if one made claim after claim on their homeowner's or auto insurance, upon that frequency ... what would rates be?
We haven't had a true private enterprise market for medical treatments in many years.
More's the pity.
