"administering the regional block to numb my left arm"
ha...that part is quite the experience. All of a sudden your arm is just gone. They put mine on my stomach and told me to hold it there with my right hand. Interesting sensation holding your own hand and having no sensation in the dead arm of it being there. I held it as they wheeled me to the operating room but when they got me close to the table I let it slip from my right had...plop it flopped...no feeling whatsoever...and no hope of lifting it up...I said...I'll be damned, I lost my fricken arm. Of course they laughed off my vulgarities to my being zonked with pre-opp dope. Little did they know I was just that vulgar. haha
