well...the reason I had to buy a new roughing gouge is because something similar to your story happened to my first one. Snapped the metal part right off at the handle. That takes some doing! haha

It happened shortly after got the lathe and was learning how to use the tools. I just now got enough courage up to buy another one...hopefully it doesn't suffer the same fate. If I manage to break this beast, y'all may learn of my death. :-))
