Re: I don't trust airplanes but...
I took flying lessons once. Studied the book, passed the test. Went out to fly...I had a problem steering the thing on the ground cause it steers like a tractor...left break pedal, turn left vise versa. I had never driven a tractor before and kept trying to steer it with the wheel. On take off I go...Dude said give it full gas so I did...when it lifted off I went up. He said level the nose off some, I like to be able to see where I'm going. I said...you can see where we're going...we're going...up.
Flew around a while...pretty cool...comes time to land...dude says do this do that...I did this and that. You know slack off on the power...give it some flap...when we got lined up he said shut the throttle down all the way...I said...you can go to hell. hahaha
I did it anyway. Didn't like the thought because in my mind no power equals no flight. We glided in for a nice landing.
But the thing I didn't like about the whole ordeal was not having the ability, once airborne, to get out and work on the engine should it have stopped.
That's why I only took one flying lesson and no more. Just wasn't comfortable with it. Throw in there a healthy fear of heights and well....
