Wondering if...

Was reading an article with headline DOW drops -390. I was wonder if, like in algebra, you multiply a negative number by a negative number and the results is a positive number...does...dow drops(which is a negative) times -390 make a +390?

DOW drops implies minus some number, x...assume -1 since 1 changes not much in multiplication.
DOW drops -390... -1(-390)= 390

Mathematically, according to this article headline, it looks like the DOW really went up 390, yesterday.

No wonder this chit is so complicated!
