Re: BTW ... What is everyone fav-o-rite ammo goin

The punt gun was from the commercial hunting period (1880-1920). Their bore was, typically, between one and one half inch to two inches (1.5 caliber to 2 caliber), weighing in a tad over a hunnert pounds.

They were set on skiffs, also known as "punts", ergo the punk gun name.

Set on turret-like devices, they were backed by gunny sacks of sea grass to absorb the shock. When overloaded, they were known to take the hull off of the skiff.

When a pair of ducks brought two dollars and a pair of canvass backs brough six .... And, think about what a dollar would buy in those days .... A man in a punt boat, with a punt guh, could readily harvest two hundred (plus) ducks per day.

Legislation, passed in 1918, brought a halt to the market hunting days.
