Many factors. Many that have been reported and highly emphasized. It will be none of those.

My thoughts, could it be that as a nation, we're simply too far in debt?

A true government shutdown will not arise from refusal to increase the debt limit. Rather, from no one willing to lend the U.S. any further monies.
