I had to google it. You are right Ronald took over in 1981. Looks like the hostages were taken in 1979 and the failed rescure was April 24th of 1980.

I did not know that short term rates peaked that much before the long term. Anyhow, if rates continue to move up I think it will go on for quite some time, which was my main thought on long term treasuries.
