There are two ruling groups, constituent wise, in the United States of America. The VERY, VERY rich and the poor, mostly nonworking poor.
The policies that taketh and giveth are encouraged by the VERY, VERY rich, as it keeps their power ..
It's not just the increase in one tax .. it's the increase in every tax. When young, I remember sales tax of 2%. The old coots (those sixty and older) would grumble about when there was no sales tax. Today, it's 8% in these parts. Cigarette tax .. used to be less than three cents per pack. Today, between federal, state, county and municipal taxes .. in these parts, it adds up to around four dollars per pack. There are other areas, of the country, where it is much worse. Property tax, in these suburbs .. ten years ago .. was under two percent .. many areas of the state were around one percent. Today, around here, many of the suburbs have a rate of over 5%. Oh, and lest we forget .. there's always the "local earnings tax" which is above and beyond federal and state income tax .. Most of the suburbs are between 2.25 and 2.75% ... from DOLLAR ONE .. earned and investment income alike.
You have NO idea how many "local" programs they have for "the poor". You would think that food stamps and Section 8 would be enough. NOPE! I'm telling you, there is no better place, in the world, to not have a job .. than here .. Pregnant and not working ... and need a social worker to remind you of prenatal appointments and DRIVE you there .. and sit with you? This is the place. Direction Card running short (food stamps) and your WIC won't buy certain things that you want? Hey, we have a county program for that. Senior citizen with time on your hands .. We'll pick you up and take you to the senior community center. A refugee and need special food .. Doorstep delivery of halal foodstuffs .. Yup, county will DELIVER halal food. We have more ..
