When my computer starts acting up, the first thing I do is delete any recent "updates." If that does not work, I ask google and look for the biggest geek site in the list that has actually corrected the problem I'm dealing with.

Every once in a while set a new restore point and you will only lose very recent stuff. Which was probably the problem time frame anyway.
