30 years ago I was thinking of buying a 300 Win. mag....had narrowed the rifle down to a Weatherby Vanguard...the Volkswagen of the Weatherby line. I opted for a .270 instead, figuring it was more appropriate for hunting conditions around here. The only place a 300 might come in handy would be as a bean gun in the west part of the state. A "bean Gun" is one that will send a bullet accurately across those wide open bean fields. In middle and east Tn you're more likely to be confined to treed up areas where 200 yards is a long shot. As much shooting as we did, I think my shoulder is glad I went with the .270.
I eventually came by a 7 mm mag. Very nice round...something that fills the gap between the 270 and the 300's. Not a punishing round to shoot at all.
