Actually, the first incursion into Iraq (Desert Shield followed by Desert Storm) was due to Iraq's invasion of Kuwait; a nation that had a treaty with the United States of America.

Did the United States have a treaty with Kuwait? The answer is affirmative.

Did Iraq invade Kuwait" The answer is affirmative.

How was that a war "started under false premises"?
