most people don't realize how far a bullet will travel. Last year I went to a 1000 yard and under range. Unfortunately, we ran out of time before we got to shoot the 1000 yarder. Did shoot the 500 yard, however. Even with the lowly 223/556 we were able to achieve pretty good accuracy. We were shooting off the bench, with supposed guns built for more then usual accuracy. Hell my scope is almost as long as my gun...5x25 power. I wouldn't want to be hit by the bullet at that range but you wouldn't think the lowly 223/556 would have much punch left at those ranges. Never the less, it was fun.
To me, being able to launch a metal plug out to long range at a half a mile a second velocity and hitting what you were aiming at, is a large part of the thrill of shooting.
One of my favorite long range shooting video producers is "MarkandSam after work".
