The one I rebuilt was pre-76 because I was still in high school when I did it and the old man never bought anything new. Buy a wreck, set me to rebuilding it. I'd have to look it up to figure out what year it was but it too was a 289 automatic. Had the console shifter...nice running little car. Could get a chirp into 2nd gear with snow tires. hahaha

I Practically ran a garage out of our garage at home. Would charge people to rebuild their motors or do engine swaps...whatever. I was pretty well known for doing that kind of thing. Even did a few for peeps my dad worked with. For us to yank a motor and rebuild it was nothing. The only thing I didn't do was auto trans. 4-speed Muncies(sp), used to could do em in my sleep.
