Around ten years ago .. when on the way to a Home Depot .. I had to drive under an interstate viaduct. There was a guy that was always standing there with the "Will Work for Food" sign. If the traffic wasn't bad .. I'd slow down and toss him a buck, sometimes a fiver .. if that's all that I could get out easily.
Anyway .. one day .. I had left all of my Fastcap "Third Hand" stuff and crown molding clips at another property. So, when swinging back, I pulled over and he ran up, I guess he recognized me as a regular contributor. In any event .. I told him that if he could just hold a few runs of crown, while I nailed 'em to the block . I'd give him twenty bucks. If it ran more than an hour .. I'd give him more ...
He told me that, honestly, he makes more than that .. standing there with the sign.
So, the next day .. I made a sigh .."WILL WORK FOR BEER".
That's as far as I got .. Never took the sign out of the shop .. It's probably still there. Forecast says we're to be in the upper fifties tomorrow. Maybe I'll give it a whirl.
