I still remember my beat-down. Jerk, A-hole, whatever, I show the poeleese the highest level of respect, but I don't have to like 'em.

I hadn't heard of the ten minute time on the dogs. Six or seven years ago, I had an employee that was popped for speeding on his way to work. He told the poeleese that he was late to work, wasn't watching his speed, and to just write him a ticket. He was asked for search consent. He refused. Supposedly the poeleese thing called for a dog. After thirty minutes he said .... "Go ahead and search, I may get fired as it is. The poeleese thing TORE his car apart. Terrible mess. Of course he found nothing ... and the search took another twenty minutes. The reason that the poeleese thing gave him for the search was that there were ashes on his dashboard. The young man was a two pack a day smoker, with a few cigars tossed in for good measure. Ashes? There were always ashes.

When did the ten minute ruling come about? Is it solely in your state or has it been accepted nationally?
