That's what I read from a source something like Johns' Hopkins or similarly well established...it's not the fat per sey that's the problem...just being fat doesn't cause a problem...it's the diseases caused by being obese or better that's killing people. Same with the diabetes...it's not the diabetes that's the problem...it's the diseases caused by the diabetes that's the problem.
I'm suspecting you could find a twenty five year old overweight, in shape, lineman, with diabetes and with no morbidities cause by either his fat or his diabetes and he won't stand any more of a chance of dying than anyone else.
The most devastated group is the elder above 80.
