Dan, there's two parts to trading: offense and defense, just like football. Offense, obviously research & making profitable trades; defense, limiting losses and making sure you don't get knocked out of the game. In all my years on the trading floor, I saw too many otherwise able traders get taken out for good because they didn't manage their risk.
You've gotten yourself behind the eight ball here, you should be concentrating on damage control, otherwise you're likely to get skinned. If you want to roll the dice, by all means keep one, possibly two lots for later, but be prepared to get dicked. There's always the possibility that most of the longs are held by one trader. Be careful who you piss off.
A possible strategy, and I'm not recommending this, would be to jack up a high print with one lot early if you can, hoping that some of the longs will wake up and start to offer it back down. If you've deep pockets this might be fun, but it's likely to backfire with disasterous results.
