What occurred was the British were so pissed off at the Americans for trying to invade Canada in 1812 while the British were fighting elsewhere and had few if any troops in Canada that 1st chance they got they sailed right across the Atlantic and attacked the White House chasing everyone out and setting it on fire. They then sailed into Baltimore and had a huge battle with the Americans there and then sailed back home. But the British were not trying to re-conquer the U.S. again. All they were doing was teaching the U.S. a lesson for invading Canada in 1812. And the U.S. never tried to attack again after that.
