Hammer in 1920? That could be pretty rare. I have a 00E, with "nitro steel", manufactured in 1898 and a Specialty Grade Single Barrel Trap, made in 1901.
Those are my oldest that don't have "Damascus" steel barrels. They're both great shooters. Point of fact, I shot some trap (not NEARLY as much fun to me as skeet) several times, last year.
I don't have any of my old books ... however, since nothing that I have that's an "Elsy" that's from as early as the eighteen nineties has exposed hammers ... I'm thinking that just may be a rather rare piece.
What model is it? It should be plainly apparent, typically the barrels, or inside the sidelocks (probably both).
My guess on the fore end would be that it was wood. It was not uncommon to have a schabel fore end .. with some exotic wood. Hard to tell, but there are ways ... do you think that the wood is original?
