Normally, on those types, there's a three pump (minimum) to nine or ten pump (maximum). The max fps is 680, which would./could kill that ol' tom. However, three pumps and not a head shot .. should probably just "dust" him .. and you'll get a jump, a yowl, and a run-away.

That'll leave you plenty of money to buy a break-open. They have some refurbished that come in at 1200 fps, with alloy, for around a hundy, .. that'll drop pretty much anything under the size of a ground hog .. For a raccoon, for a kill, you'll probably need a head shot.

However, if you're looking for something that will allow you to dust pesky tom cats .. that Crossman should do you rightly. Keep it to three or four pumps .. or ...even at only 600 fps ... you'll kill that poor little kitty.
